What's in the pack
Most people get generic answers from AI because they've never given it any real context on who they are. This fixes that in about 20 minutes, and it's not a one-time setup — it compounds every time you add to it.
- 01Setup checklist — VS Code and the Claude Code extension, installed and pointed at your own folder.
- 02The full interview prompt — six categories, ready to paste, that build a real memory profile instead of a generic bio.
- 03The update prompt — how to keep it current as your situation actually changes.
- 04Bonus: the client/agency version — the same method, run per client instead of on yourself.
Why a bio doesn't work
Most people's instinct is to word-vomit a bio at the AI — "I'm 32, I like hiking, I run a business." That's useless. Generic facts don't change how it responds to you.
The thing that actually works is an interview, not a monologue: one category at a time, open questions, follow-ups on anything vague, until there's something specific enough to actually change future answers.
Here's a taste of it — the prompt for keeping your memory current once it's set up, free, no opt-in required:
I've just [whatever actually happened — e.g. "landed a new job as a teacher, teaching X at Y school"]. Update the memory file with this context.
That's the whole mechanic. The full six-category interview prompt, the setup checklist, and the client/agency version are in the pack below.

Before You Paste Anything
You'll need two things: VS Code (free, code.visualstudio.com) and the Claude Code extension installed inside it — Extensions tab, search "Claude Code", click Install. Then create one folder on your computer that's just yours, call it "Personal", and open it in VS Code. That's your home base. Everything below happens inside that folder.
The Interview Prompt
Open Claude Code inside your Personal folder and paste this in full.
I want you to build a persistent memory profile of me — my background, goals, personality, and how I want you to work with me — so future conversations don't require me to re-explain who I am. Interview me one category at a time, in this order. For each category, ask me open questions and follow up on anything vague or interesting before moving on. Don't rush me through it. 1. Background — what I actually do, my real areas of expertise, and the career/life path that got me here. 2. Goals & dreams — what I'm working toward, in my own priority order, not generic aspirations. 3. Current situation — whatever I'm actively navigating or deciding right now, with the real constraints (money, time, whatever's relevant). 4. Relationships & personal life — as much or as little as I want to share. 5. Values — what I'm proud of, what I regret, and what I won't compromise on no matter how good an opportunity looks. 6. How I want you to work with me — communication style, blunt vs. encouraging, when to check in before acting vs. just running with things. After each category, summarise what you captured in a few bullet points and confirm it's accurate before moving to the next one. When we finish all six, save each category as its own short Markdown file in a "memory" folder inside this project, plus one short index file that lists each file with a one-line description. The index is what should load automatically every conversation; the full category files only get pulled in when relevant. Each file should capture not just the facts, but why they matter and how to apply them — not a generic summary.
Then just talk. Hit the microphone icon in the chat box and answer like you're talking to a person, not filling in a form. Any category you'd rather skip — relationships is the common one — just say so and move on.
Doing This For Clients
If you freelance or run an agency, this isn't only a personal-life tool. Add a new folder to your workspace for each client (File → Add Folder to Workspace), and run the same interview process — but about their business instead of you.
Then keep feeding it: drop in call transcripts, client briefs, weekly reports, meeting notes, as they happen. Every time you open that client's folder in Claude, it already has full context on their business — no re-explaining, no digging back through old emails to remember where things left off.
We'll set this up
across your whole business
If you'd rather not build this yourself — per client, per project, wired into how your team actually works — that's exactly what we do. 30 minutes, no hard sell, we'll tell you honestly if it's a fit.
